you lot are a bunch of whiny no-good ungrateful gits.

Haven't you heard of the "Kiwi Effect"?

I love it. It's full of, erm, how can I put this?

I'll leave it to you to decide.

A small taste, however.

Quote:"I'm well aware of the Kiwi Effect; I fell victim to it when I came to New Zealand with my family in 1998. When I use the term "fell victim" I mean in a good way"

"Before coming to New Zealand our research suggested we would come to a clean green, nuclear free, beautiful, rugby mad country. When we got here all of those were true...

On OE experience.

Quote:
"We've discovered a rather interesting phenomenon. Most IT companies in the UK have a Kiwi or two doing their OE. They are the shining stars of the department. Typically, they live in a bed sit around the corner, turn up early, work hard, stay late, are very imaginative in what they do, and are the life and soul of any party. Once in a while they'll get together..and make a passable attempt at drinking a pub dry..

It goes on like this for a few more paragraphs, and then another 100 odd pages of pure 100% drivel.
Gobsmacked!

Note : written by pommy migrant.

Unfortunately, I can't copy and paste the doco, but I think it's well worth a look.
There are at least three other moderators for the New Zealand forum. You could say that's overkill as most replied to posts only get one or two responses.

Well, they should have watched their sh** more closely then, ay. Who would just leave their belongings for someone to steal? Bluddy tourists have MORE THAN THEY NEED anyway! Do they THINK THERE'S NO CRIME here?
Didn't they DO THEIR RESEARCH?
Then they get what they deserve! Sorted....
And honestly, apart from one south african friend who wants to go home, most of my friends were from the uk (I have a few here too), and they weren't the rabid ones who froth at the mouth with anything negative mentioned about nz, they are the ones who are normal. And most are returning home. Who could blame them really.

I guess the guy who complained has a point - any humour gets lost of you start pushing people off tube trains or give passers by the fingers, it becomes anti social and hostile - not surprising - it's just the same thing transported from NZ to London, after all it only takes 24 hours to get there - not enough time to change one's personality and social attitudes.

I saw the paper and the photo of the haka, some guys with grotescue facial expressions, stripped to the waist. I did notice there were no brown ones in there, all young NZ european males. There seems to be a real double standard about the Haka. If overseas performers etc are thought to be "taking the mick" or being disrespectful about it - it is soon reported in the media and there are howls of outrage - 'how dare they' - and local Maoris have a strong say and disapprove. But it seems ok to perform the Haka - drunk - which to me would be the ultimate insult if it is so venerated - why don't Maori say something about that?

We seem to really need a pub crawl to celebrate Waitangi Day, probably just shows a lack of imagination. Americans, French etc seem to celebrate their national days in different ways.

It must be part of being "full on" and the "hardening up" process.

I actually feel sorry for Christchurch, as much as I hated living there and hated the residents (apart from my lovely expat friends I had met there), I liked the nice parts as a town..to see it destroyed was very sad..(we came back to oz 6 weeks before the september quake)..

But..

To rebuild on the same land-mad if you ask me!

I repped up your post because it was thoughtful and interesting, but on second thought I agree with you about the difference between those terms. (about Columbine too - I guess they don't realize that "what property someone's family owns" isn't a descriptor that belongs in the first few lines of a news story in many places - so it says something about what they value, I suppose, and extrapolating from this, what enables their survival)

                                      [sarcasm on]

Dastardly criminal mastermind, Kim Dotcom, who honed his craft of deception after watching 1000s of Hitler inspired videos of the Nazi third reich, has been refused bail, for the 2nd time.

The dangerous denizen of the digital age, Dotcom, has amassed an arsenal of high powered calibre German machine guns in his secret hide-out in Auckland.

The weapon aresnal includes German Heckler and Koch machine guns used by the Israli secret forces.

A connoisseur of military hardware, DotCom has assemembled a German Panzer tank, which he was allegedly going to use for grocery shopping in Ponsonby.

"izzz no good to me now, yah?" Dotcom said.

Sources close to DotCom claim the mega-mind has subjected them to cult-like conditions and brainwashed them into providing the internet with millions of illegal downloaded files.

"I was a zombie", said one unamed source, who acted as DotCom's manager.

"He forced me to watch DasBoot one thousand times".

"Thank god that rogue is finally behind bars!"

Meanwhile, hi-tech USA Navy seals have surrounded Auckland harbour fearing DOTCOM has a team of secret masterminds poised outside Eden remand prison to break him out.

"We're ready for fat-boy", an unnamed Navy seal, who previously was hunting for Osama Bin Laden, said.
