Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I found it because I'm quite keen on getting outta NZ, it's just doing my head in.
So where can Kiwis live overseas? I'd quite like to live in a warmer climate, preferably a dry climate. I know all countries will have different rules for immigrants, are there any resources that could help me? I'd hate to have to search manually in each countries website etc. I know this topic may seem a bit vague and maybe even dumb, but I just don't where else to get good advice about this and this forum seems like the best option. Cheers Neville Christchurch |

Hi Runner & welcome. That all depends on what you're really looking for. Where we you before you came back to NZ and what were your reasons for returning? _________________ New Zealand. People who live in plaster houses shouldn't throw stones. |

I don't think he's lived outside of NZ yet, he just wants to get out :) _________________ ![]() Thumbnail, click to enlarge. |

It may seem obvious but Oz is right next door and it is warmer and drier and with the amount of Kiwis there it will be a home away from home and you dont have to qualify If you are looking for somewhere in the Northern heisphere because you would like a change have you ever thought about Monaco, if you are into F1 that would be a big bonus. _________________ Happiness is a journey, not a destination |

Thanks for your comments so far guys. I've lived in Hong Kong for a year, London for 2 years and Nigeria for 3 years. Done quite a bit of traveling in that time as you can imagine.
Monaco... sounds interesting. Can Kiwis just move there? What are the requirements? I'm trying to find out where Kiwis can emigrate to, OZ is an obvious one I agree and I have thought about it. I just want to get a feel for where else people might know of. Does anyone know of any South American countries where we can get in? Maybe somewhere in Europe? |

I have just spoken with a international moving company in NZ.
I asked and got to know that kiwis go to australia. Southa fricans go to australia after they have been here for 2 years. All other people go to their home countries, england , argentina, brasil, colombia, holland, france,USA they all go home except for those that cant and they go to oz. |

Unfortunately there are certain reasons why Im here in NZ at the moment. But I drove around Wellington quite a bit today. What a dump most of it is. Crumby housing that is not even cheap. And not even insulated, just perfect for listening to noisy modified cars heaving up and down outside all day. Lower Hutt, what a dump. That is a seriously unattractive suburb with even more unattractive residents for the most part. I for one would certainly vote for a return to Blighty, it all looks pretty good from here. _________________ You sure you want to live in NZ? |

Wasn't the time was increased to 5 years that any immigrant needs to live in NZ before being able to go to Australia? |

No. Immigrants can leave New Zealand for Australia whenever they want - they just have to get the appropriate visa.
I think you're getting mixed up with immigrants gaining NZ citizenship after 5 years and using it to become Australia's underclass. Last edited by Rebel on Fri Aug 27, 2010 11:01 pm |

Would be interesting to see to official statistics on this. For each nationality, what percentages stay long term, return home within a few years or go to Australia. Anyone know what the actual percentage is?

I'm sure the information is out there if you want to find it.

I think you're getting mixed up with immigrants gaining NZ citizenship after 5 years and using it to become Australia's underclass. This person told that those that could not live in their own home country for some reason could get in to NZ and then they stayed 2 years to get the step stone to oz. |

The person you spoke to is wrong Dalvvadis.
Skilled/qualified immigrants, who are on the skill shortage list for Australia can apply for visas to go to Australia even if they've only been in NZ for one year/6 months. Alternatively, they can directly apply for jobs in Australia from New Zealand and if they are 'the right person for the job' they're likely to be offered a temporary, two year work visa in Australia. Never has two years been a "stepping stone" into Australia. Yes, New Zealand citizens are able to live and work in Australia without any visa requirements as such, but currently, to apply for citizenship in NZ you need to have lived there for 5 years and prior 2005 it was 3 years of living in New Zealand. _________________ Stuck in the mud |

Was told this by person that organize people moving out of NZ.
I have not checked if the facts are right or not. So I do not argue :) I do not know the facts myself since I have not considered moving to OZ. |

I have to agree with Pluto.
But no way can you get a general work visa, even if you are on the skilled shortage list, if you are over 45. Not even if you are a top notch surgeon. But - according the guy at immigration in Brisbane last year, if we can find a company to offer us a job on the skill list and the company are prepared to sponsor us, they will let us in for two years. But it's not cheap. _________________ I came, I saw - I'm leaving. |
